On-Leash

Private Lessons

4 Private Lessons (1 Hour Each)

Ideal for: Newly adopted adult dogs (8 months+), dogs that have minor behavior problems such as pulling on walks, stealing unauthorized food/toys from counters, jumping, excessive barking and general lack of listening and/or impulse skills.

At Finn Family Dog Training, we believe when we expect more of our dogs and become the leader they need, we can eliminate the most common behavior problems out there.  We use commands as a way to build your relationship with your dog and keep your dog in a calm, attentive state of mind.

What to expect with the Foundations Training Program:

First Session: Designed to set you and your dog up for success by teaching you the foundations of a happy walk.  We take all the guesswork out of what you need to do to successfully walk your dog. After a strong foundation is set, we'll apply what you learned and go for a structured walk together.  99% of pulling and shenanigans on the walk can be corrected during our first lesson.

Second Session: Through the place command, we will teach your dog how to stay calm even in the loudest and liveliest of homes.  When you can trust your dog to listen, they can be part of the family more often instead of being banished to a bedroom or the backyard.

Third Session: Taking the place command one step further, your dog will learn to sit and lay down until they are released by you and also to come on command-even around distractions.  Through each command, we are getting to the root of your dog's behavior problems and replacing them with new habits.  We can't proof them for every situation but we can teach them to look to their humans for leadership and direction-no matter what else is going on.

Fourth Session: We will work together to troubleshoot any problems that you encountered after three weeks of being your dog's leader, fine tune the commands and even go on a field trip. We can meet at a dog-friendly store, go for a hike or wherever you’ve always wanted to hang out with your dog but you didn't think it was possible-until now.

Post-Training:  After our four weeks together, we will move into our continuing education portion of training.  When you train with us, you have a trainer for the life of your dog.  We are in this together for the long haul.

  • As a client, you are invited to join our private, client-only Facebook page where we can problem solve together, meet other clients experiencing similar experiences with their dogs too and be part of our awesome Finn Family community.

  • We would also love to see you at our monthly group lessons to fine tune anything you'd like to work on with your dog. This is also a great opportunity to socialize your dog in a safe, supervised environment.

The hybrid program is designed for dogs with minor behavior issues such as jumping, lack of listening skills and pulling on walks. For more intense behavior issues such as separation anxiety and aggression, please check out our comprehensive board and train programs below.

E-Collar Hybrid training starts with a week at lead trainer, Laura’s home in Aurora. During the week long board and train, your dog will learn the foundations of e-collar and the following commands:

  • Off-leash heel

  • Off-leash recall

  • Place Command

  • Out Command

  • Looking to humans for direction in order to make better choices

  • How to be calm and quiet in the crate

During the week, we will dive into specifically address any naughty behaviors your dog may be having while also adding the benefits of low-level modern e-collar training. This program will teach you everything you need to know to build a strong relationship and off-leash trust with your dog.

What to expect with the Hybrid E-Collar Program:

Lesson One: We will meet for one private lesson before the week long board and train to get set you and your dog up for optimal success during the board and train. The first lesson is designed to teach your dog a good foundation of how we train.

Week Long Board and Train (7 Days): Drop off and pick up will be at Trainer Laura’s home in west Aurora near CU Medical Campus. We will introduce the e-collar to your dog by teaching them a number of commands as a gateway to a better state of mind, hold them accountable and give them plenty of structure to set them up for success when they get home. Daily updates will be posted on Facebook and/or Instagram unless otherwise discussed. We will work together for an hour long private lesson upon pick up so you have the tools and confidence to continue training once your dog is home.

Follow Up #1: We will specifically address any behavior problems that have not been solved by your dog's new routine and the commands your dog now knows.  We will continue to work with the e-collar to make sure you are super comfortable using it correctly and practice the "come" command for that off-leash reliability.

Follow Up #2: We will continue to address any trouble you've run into during the course of training.  If your dog needs more help in crowds, we will venture to a location with lots of people.  If your dogs gets weird around other dogs, we will go practice our walk near a dog park.  Each session is designed to set your dog up for success and specifically address the concerns you're having.

Follow Up #3: We will work together to troubleshoot any problems that you encountered over the course of the last two months of being your dog's leader, and practicing a calmer walk and holding your dog accountable to impulse control.  If everything looks good, we will do something fun with your dog- go for a hike, agility work at an empty playground, etc.
